Fog Lights
Fog Lights were originally designed for use in poor weather conditions, i.e. rain, snow, and, you guessed it, fog. By focusing the light downward, fog lights increase the amount of light focused on the road in front of and produce less glare than your headlights. Of course these days, fog lights are more about looks than function. While still very useful in poor weather, most people just like them for asthetic value.
Today's Fog Lights
As I mentioned, most fog lights in the past were designed for one purpose. To focus light on the road directly in front of you. With advances in technology, today's fog lights are able to not only provide better function, but to last longer and to look better. Today's aftermarket fog lights are available in a wide range of styles.
Projector fog lights
use an enclosed projector that allows for a more focused light source. This assures you that more light is going where it should, and reduces light scatter and glare. Because of the enclosed projector lighting source,
halo fog lights
are now available. These include a halo, or "angel eye", around the main light source. This allows for more light and a modern, stylish appearance. Probably the newest type available are
LED fog lights
. As you might imagine, LED fog lights include LED accents inside the housing of the light and allow for more light, better visibility, and a sharp-looking upgrade over factory fog lights.
